Gas storage neutrality charge unchanged from January 2023

Berlin/Ratingen, 15 November 2022 • Trading Hub Europe GmbH (THE) sets the neutrality charge according to Section 35e of the Energy Industry Act to ensure the fill level specifications for gas storage systems (gas storage neutrality charge) from January 1, 2023 at 0.59 EUR/MWh. This means that the value remains unchanged from the previous period.

The background is the amendment of the Energy Industry Act, which in particular provides filling level specifications for storage. The filling level specifications are to be achieved by a provision mechanism for unused storage capacities and other measures such as the tendering of Strategic Storage Based Options (SSBO) and the filling of storage by THE. The aim is to increase security of supply in Germany. Due to the current uncertainty in the gas market, the volume forecasts for future injections and the forecasts for the relevant prices are extremely volatile, so the amount of the gas storage neutrality charge will be kept stable for the coming period in agreement with the Federal Network Agency and with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

The next determination of the gas storage neutrality charge will take place on July 1, 2023.
