Gas storage neutrality charge from July 2025 at 2.89 EUR/MWh

Berlin/Düsseldorf, 19 May 2025 Trading Hub Europe GmbH (THE) is setting the neutrality charge in accordance with Section 35e of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG) to secure the filling level requirements for gas storage facilities (gas storage neutrality charge) at 2.89 EUR/MWh from July 1, 2025.

The background to the neutrality charge is the provisions of the EnWG, which in particular stipulate filling level requirements for storage facilities. Since the law came into force in 2022, various measures have been taken by THE in accordance with the legal requirements in order to increase security of supply. These include in particular the filling of various gas storage facilities.

The gas storage neutrality charge is significantly influenced by purchases and sales of storage volumes already made and forecast by THE and by the amount of the levyable volume. In particular against the background of the higher consumption of SLP and RLM withdrawal points last winter compared to the forecasts, the gas storage neutrality charge will be set at the aforementioned level from July 1, 2025. When forecasting further costs and revenues, When forecasting further costs and revenues, THE currently assumes, in agreement with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and with the involvement of the Federal Network Agency, that THE will not need to fill any storage facilities.

The next determination of the gas storage neurality charge will take place on January 1, 2026.
