In accordance with the provisions of Section 35c (1) of the Energy Industry Act, which were amended with effect from April 1, 2024, the market area manager can procure strategic instruments to promote the achievement of the filling level targets to an appropriate extent with the approval of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) in agreement with the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA). To implement these requirements, Trading Hub Europe GmbH (THE), together with BMWK and BNetzA, has started to develop a new product in recent months that will completely replace the existing Strategic Storage Based Options. Please note that product development is taking place independently of any tendering process.

On January 21, 2025, BDEW and Energy Traders Europe hosted a joint web conference in which THE presented the current status of discussions on the design of this product. You can download the slides shown here on our website.

Due to the high demand for information on the part of market participants, THE will also offer its own information event at E-world energy & water on February 11, 2025. This information event will take place on site in the “Mailand” Room in the Conference Center West at Messe Essen between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
